Seth Ferranti borrows liberally from Adrian Nicole LeBlancs brilliant Random Family. A lesser writer, he steals whole passages from her book. I'm surprised no one has noticed.

It started like it was going to be a good read .then ended up not being interesting but I started it so I had to finish it. There's no story it just say who he is. And how he made money then got caught. No details about what it was like n the 80's. I want to read a book and picture it n my mind like it's a movie. If you picture what your reading like a movie this book is not going to give you that satisfaction

Japanese fairy tale: familiar but new

A poor man finds a wounded crane, pierced by an arrow. He heals its wound, then releases this symbol of loyalty, fidelity, and longevity back to the skies. Then, from nowhere, a beautiful woman appears at his door and begs to be his wife.

Although the story gets off to a non-Western start, it follows a familiar course. She brings him happiness and wealth, but has a secret. The poor man can't resist uncovering her secret and, in learning it, loses everything.

The watercolor illustrations never drew me in, but I liked the story anyway. Maybe a read-to-me kid in your house will like it too.

Gorgeous book, but didn't realize it was a text book

This was a great book, but it was a gift, so I took a star off for it being a text book - the inside front cover has that classic grid for writing all the students names in it.

Otherwise, it's a beautiful, haunting book that has a great story to go with the lovely art.
