A firm foundation for good health!

The information in this book is very correct; but the book does not contain the pictorial illustrations referred to in the text. I am referring to the printed as well as the Kindle editions. The appearance of the pages is like a neatly typed thesis, done on a typewriter. If doctors today, were following Dr. Kellogg's understanding of the human body and its systems, I sincerely believe that disease as we know it today would not be so overwhelming to life itself. This is a very good read even for young people, adults and those who have studied medicine. If whoever deems to stay in good health, has this correct foundation on physiology and hygiene not only will their life be more enjoyable, but they would have an extra advantage of being able to point out the correct way for others to have a healthy, happy and more joyous life with their mind and body.

I feel that it is a nice way of encouraging children to interact with their own ...

Very simple language...daughter is still reading it. It is not necessary to buy this book its available for free online as an ebook but I intended it as a teaching tool for my daughter so when I take her tablet away...she still has the book. I feel that it is a nice way of encouraging children to interact with their own health and physical needs...before it is entirely their responsibility to take care of themselves...encouraging them to have an awareness of what is healthy and what is not...so that they dont always put that on mom to figure out when/what/if they can have whatever... health is a personal choice and a way of life and we do the best we can teaching our children but they have to make good choices themselves

This volume describes the progress being made at The Institute for the Learning Sciences using computers to provide motivating environments for learning -- environments that enable students to explore new worlds, and learn things by doing them. This technology will allow society to support what is one of the most important parts of a good educational system: the cultivation of individual initiative in students. This text documents the authors' work from the cognitive psychology which underlies it on through to guided tours of a number of the software learning environments they've developed.

Teachers of the WORLD this is a must

Many teacher in the world are a little skeptic about what direction is education going. Just read this book and you will find your answer. Some teacher with many years in the system say; "The way I teach my class is the way I learned." Guess what, students have VCR, Cable, DVD, Computers, Stereo System, Dish, Web sites, etc. We must get with it. We must make the classroom a Multi-media enviorment. So we can keep students interested on our class. This book gives you an excellent guide to how to work it out. Keep the students interested in such way that they will line up in front of your class and don't want to leave. This is a must for old and new teachers around the world.

You'll chew and chew and chew on everything in this....

We've all heard about paradigm shifts; here's your chance to experience one. This book delivers so much common sense backed by advanced research that it's hard not to be compelled to rethink our entire educational system. But don't be overwhelmed by Shank's conclusions, he has wisely broken his outrage and insight into bite sized portions. You can reflect intelligently upon his ideas without feeling swamped by the magnitude of the problem. Although, for what he proposes to become a reality in schools across the country significant changes in public thinking are required, Schank has included lists of things that can be done today to make classrooms more relevant, more engaging, more likely to foster the kind of learning that happens when a student actively pursues something of interest to him or her. As a teacher-in-training I am appalled at the student apathy and the ineffective teaching techniques that exist in some of the better classes in some of the better schools I have visited. Shank's insight and proposals are too good to not work their way into the educational system, for the simple reason that they leverage the most important learning device known to man: human interest and curiosity. However, in the meantime another generation of young people are doin'-time in our schools. Not only are they not learning much of value, more tragic than that is that they are learning to dislike learning. I'll conclude by letting you know how restrained I've remained while writing this review. I'm cautious of all hyperbole and have attempted mightily to resist the temptation to declare this book to be something greater than I dare. But suffice it to say that if you read Engines for Education with an open mind you'll actually see a glimmer of possibility, a genuine ray of hope in the otherwise sadly redundant world of education.

One -wants- to believe Schank...

...and one might because he is quite persuasive and has a way with language. Also, many of us want to believe there are some ways to improve education in this country. I enjoyed this book, and found it a stimulating read. However, there's one major criterion on which I felt this book failed.
While motivating the need for remedying education, Schank takes the approach of preaching to the converted. Either that, or he acts as a demagogue, I am interpreting it politely. Basically, he establishes the need for change in education, by and large, anecdotally, without reference to relevant evidence, without reporting any research or non-subjective demonstration of the motivation for his proposed fix.
Also, one must accept the concept that this fix would work on a large scale on faith. Who knows? Maybe exponentially expaning computer-based learning could improve education in many ways. Would those improvements remedy ALL the ills of education he cites? Maybe... maybe not.
would there be negative side effects to expanding the role of computers in instruction? Schank does not consider these possibilities thoroughly enough. In short, a very interesting idea that is presented in an uncomfortably one-sided fashion. A reccomended read; but to be read with critical faculties as well as an open mind.

While she first thinks he's crazy, she soon realizes she's out of options. But why choose her? As this mysterious journey between Demari and Rishonda unfolds, rivals attack, lives are at risk, but family, honor and love prevail above all.

Good IR Mafia Romance

This was a good IR Mafia romance with a twist. I really enjoyed the ending and glad everything worked out for Rishonda and Demari. There were a lot of ups and downs in this story, plenty of steamy love scenes as well as some suspense. There were a couple of times where I was wondering what was going to happen next, but glad everything worked out in the end in a HEA ending. Dialogue was funny at times and while overall the story was good I felt it could have used a few more chapters at the end to really show the reader more about their life together later. Don't get me wrong it was still a sweet ending but it could have been a bit more fleshed out. Recommended romance.

Entertaining story!

This story was very entertaining. At first I really didnt like the hero but as the story progressed the banter between them was very entertaining and it was almost like the author showed bit by bit how the hero wasn't like other mobsters in his family. There were some very bad people he knew. The heroine was a very strong woman who was just trying to give her sister a normal life and I totally respect that. They both went through some struggles but came out ahead in the end. A very sweet story with two very strong alpha leads leading the book. Good read.

Really enjoyed the story. There were times I thought the heroine was immature in the beginning when she was trying to make up her mind if she would marry Demari. When you met the sister of the heroine you realized just how much the heroine had given up her life to raise her little sister. She had never lived for herself everything she did was to survive for she and her sister. I mean all in all it was a good book. I actually loved the hero and I thought it was good to see the love happen between hero/heroine.

Family ties, loyalty and passion will bind you forever...

Now for something completely different...but with its own merits and surprises. I am a HUGE Lils' and Jay fan and absolutely loved Tara Oakes' Kingsmen series...so I was thrilled to get to read her newest book Baby V and went in not knowing what to expect. I am also a big lover of all things ethnic and mafia...especially when it involves an innocent woman caught up in the violence and attraction to a "bad" man. This book had all the requirements for just such a reading pleasure but was a more softer, less graphic version of some other "familia" type books I have read.
When Vincenza Lombardi graduates from her protective and sheltered existence at St. Bart's girls-only school she is met with the enthusiasm and rowdy support of her older brothers and a certain close family friend Dom DiBenedetto...the one who will change her future in more ways than one. She is (of course) a virgin and has never even seen a man naked...but has all the sweet, romantic fantasies all young women have of finding that man and falling in love (like in the chick-flics she loves to watch).
"Baby V" (as she's known to family and friends) has always had an eye for her friend Theresa's brother Dom but because he is older and pretty much has a rep for being a player, she never thought she would have a chance with him (or have the permission of their families to pursue him).
What she doesn't know is that there has been secrets kept for years, plans made to keep the family ties strong and that her future was never hers to choose in the first place. I can't say too much more about the intricate plotlines, dangerous people from the past trying to cause trouble or exactly WHAT secrets the family is hiding without spoiling the excitement of discovery, but I will say that the love story between V and Dom was mega-sweet, romantic and then OMG so HOT!
It was like a long, slow, sensuous foreplay session when these two are together and being a virgin, V only has books and movies to give her any ideas on what to expect or even "do" with a man. I was getting a little hot and bothered myself reading Dom's seduction techniques and just WISH I had had someone like him back when it was my first time! There is a really cool twist near the end that I especially liked that showed V coming into her own as a person and as a strong woman in her own right.
If you love the rough and tough world of The Kingsmen MC, be aware you won't be getting that type of read with this book, but it was still a very exciting and suspenseful story full of complex (and at times comical) characters, rich family history and leaves us with a small cliffhanger at the end that sets the stage for book 2!

Great new genre for Tara Oakes

This book was not what I was expecting from Tara Oakes. There was very little angst but plenty of hot sex. Baby V has had her whole life mapped out for her and now that she's finished college she is no longer going to allow others to dictate her life but Dom may change all that. He's been like a older brother growing up and now that she's all grown up thier attraction heats up. Dom is a powerful experienced man and Baby V has been sheltered her whole life. Can she handle a man like Dom? Can she handle the secrets? Will she forge her own way or allow Dom to guide her in the direction of his choosing? There is a small cliff hanger but not one that will aggravate the reader.

Dom and Vincenza! Hot!!!

I enjoyed reading Baby V because I can relate to Baby V. being the youngest of a family. My family isn't well to do but all 4 of my sisters and I went to a private all girls schools with uniforms but we lived at home. I dislike being called the baby but it's something you never outgrow and doesn't stop once you're an adult, being the youngest.

Living a sheltered life is also something I can relate to and not being considered in discussions that can effect one's future.

Upon graduating from college, the family has planned for Vincenza to become part of the family's company which she is already a Board Member. But V. wants to embark on a different path that doesn't include the business. Her brother John continually tries to persuade V to take a position in the company but decides to use a different approach. He has Dom, the C.E.O of the family business, work on a different strategy to gain her acceptance of a position.

What will happen when secrets from the past are revealed? Will it bring the two families whose patriarchs' started the business together with hard work and determination together or does it break families apart? What will happen with the dynamics of Dom and Vincenza? You must read to find out.

I recommend that you read this book because it is a great read. I cannot wait for Book 2!
