I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review.

This is the story of a seventeen year old girl named Scarlett who recently moved to a new town. She is an orphan who was raised by her dad’s best friend until she decided to become emancipated. Even though she is emancipated, he lives with her and acts as a bodyguard. Her first day of school, she meets Blake and immediately decides that he is a player. She wants nothing to do with him. During a shared class, he asks her what pack she belongs to and she thinks that he has lost his mind. She has no idea what he is talking about and he soon realizes this. During school, she comes to the realization that the school seems to be divided into two different groups and both of them seem to look at her like she is about to attack them. As she is walking to her car at the end of the day, she sees Cade. Cade is Blake’s best friend and seems to be the leader of one of the two groups, with Blake being the leader of the other. She lumps him in the same “player” category that she put Blake in. Unfortunately though, she is attracted to Cade.
Then the big secret is revealed. Scarlett is a werewolf, but not just a werewolf. Shortly afterwards, she discovers that she is Cade’s mate.
I did have some issues with this book. They start out going to school and while I understand missing days because of what is going on, they never return. Also, I cannot figure out why she felt the need to be emancipated from Gary, but he lives with her, trains her and takes care of her. Also, the wolfsbane thing. Cade uses it to keep a wolf from touching the bars of the cell (it burns the skin), but Victor injects more than one person with it and all it does is prevent others from figuring out they are wolves. That same potion, when injected in either Scarlett or Victor prevents them from shifting in order to protect themselves.
The characters are good, great to see a strong female character from beginning to end. It was truly a nice read, even with the issues I had. Definitely 4 stars.

Great story, loved every chapter

This was such a great story! I really loved the way she writes Scarlet's personality. I got hooked the first couple sentences. You heard me, first sentences. I love the romance. I first heard about Alpha on wattpad, but missed the chance to read it, so I had to have the paper copy. It's been awhile since I have read an actual book instead of on my phone. It was worth it. I can tell you, that you will enjoy this.

Past comes calling!

Loved this book! Scarlett is strong, independent and sassy. She will soon learn some secrets that will change everything. What happens when the past is revealed and the danger she has been waiting for finds her. What does the two most popular boys in her new school have to do with it all? Cade and Blake know they need to protect Scarlett but will she believe what they have to tell her? Will one of them be her future? Loved all the characters and the banter between them all. I can't wait to see what happens next!

This book is an absolute gem.

I checked this book out using my KU account and from the title did not expect much. Oh how wrong I was.

This book is an absolute gem. It has all the cliche story lines; a soldier on leave gets caught up in an alien invasion, the soldier fights back, the Earth is saved by another alien race, the soldier signs up to go fight the invaders for their new alien friends. Ho-hum. yawn, been there read that, but wait...suddenly totally new, never before scenes start to pop-up. You get an inkling when Barney (yes the horrible purple dinosaur from childrens TV) makes an appearance.

From there you are taken along on an hilarious ride of non-stop action, jokes, impossible situations, prison breaks, stealing a spaceship; etc; etc. All fun, fast paced and well written.Then there is Skippy....'nuf said!

Be cautious though, if you have a problem with the F word, skip this book. Same thing for anyone who cannot deal with coarse language, some gutter humor and are looking for hard science. But, for anyone that has been 21, and/or been in the military and been in situations you didn't understand, but just went with the flow, this book is for you.

Thanks for a great book Craig and for putting it on Kindle Unlimited, I probably wouldn't have read COLUMBUS DAY otherwise..

Has some parts that drag and if you're a typo nerd, stay away. But, I read to be entertained and this was entertaining and somewhat funny to boot. Unfortunately, it took awhile to get to the humorous part so you need to hang in there. And if you're a technology or combat analyst or a feminist who needs KA females as minor MCs minimally, read something else. There's so much BS out there, it's hard to find anything close to real and author kept it real, didn't sacrifice for political correct like majority of SF writers do.

One of the better points of the story is the MC is an enlisted soldier who gets in way over his head. No super hero, no special powers, no great intellect nor MOH type personality. Just some good old common sense and the type of character and bravery you'd expect from a good infantryman . If you can stomach that and can chuckle some ......

Great Main Character

I have to admit that I don't usually read this kind of book but the blurb and the cover caught my eye. And I'm glad I read it. The main character, Joe, really pulls you in. He's a decent guy with a good sense of humor that he uses to get him thru some really bad situations. When Skippy comes along, that sense of humor is really tested and the story really gets interesting. I found myself totally involved in the story and read it in two sittings which is odd for me.... too many distractions. The book stands alone well but obviously leaves room for a sequel. I'll be waiting for it! Hope it doesn't take too long, Craig!!

A serious book

This book is "tha shizzle". If you don't get better by following the instructions, exercises and tips listed here...when then I suggest you to study something else than music.
This is not a book for beginners or amateurs in my opinion. Reading skills, basic theory and jazz harmony are required to really appreciate whats going on here. I've been waiting a long time for a method like this and even considered wrinting something like this myself. Luckily Damian did it for me and probably much better....outstanding work Mr. Erskine!

this book is all that and a bag of chords, scales, and study techniques. damien is one heck of teacher....showing how to expand your sonic palate, as oppse to play what i play...trust me. for interrmediates and advanced....buy and study. for newbies...buy and hold,you'll get there

Great book for a Dora fan!

My daughter loves this book. We got it for her a year ago (when she was 3) and she still loves it (she turns 5 in March). The vinyl clings are cool because my daughter can put them wherever she wants. The only problem is that there isn't a place to "store" them, which isn't really the book's fault. I only suggest keeping them somewhere safe as we lost one piece. :( She got creative and used another cling to continue her fun with this book!

Shame On Amazon for listing this item as a paperback book. Leads customers to believe that it is the actual story book which it is not. This is a sticker book that acts more as an activity book than a reading book. My daughter has been asking for this book for awhile and was please to have thought I found it here at Amazon. Only buy if you intend on getting a sticker book that has next to no story line and is not intended as a reading book.

The Prince with no fun!!

Dora may save the prince but it was not fun for the reader. The book was in good shape but it was a sticker book with no stickers! It was not stated as such in the book listing and I was very upset when I received it and looked at it. I did not even give the book to my grand daughter!
There was not sense in doing that.

About the Author
Janice L. Chapman, A.U.A., O.A.M. was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for "service to music as an operatic singer and teacher of voice and as a contributor to research into human sound production and vocal health." Ms. Chapman has a background as an opera and concert singer, and is a member of the vocal faculties at the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She also maintains a busy private practice serving many international clients, and has been a pioneer in the multidisciplinary approach to voice in the U.K. She is internationally recognized as one of the leading teachers of singing. Her own career as a singer spanned over 35 years, with engagements as a principal soprano in all the major UK opera companies, including The Royal Opera Covent Garden, English National Opera, and in many European countries. In 1975 she combined her singing career with teaching when she was invited to join the faculty at the London College of Music where she worked for 8 years before leaving to concentrate on her private practice. She became a member of the founding committee of the Voice Research Society (now the British Voice Association) and has served as its Chair and as a committee member for many years. Many of her singing clients are internationally recognized opera and concert artists and she also works in close collaboration with Laryngologists and ENT Surgeons in the rehabilitation of damaged voices. She visits Australia regularly, collaborating on research at the National Voice Centre, University of Sydney. Her consultancy and workshop client include The London Symphony Chorus, The Royal Shakespeare Company, The B.B.C. Symphony Chorus, The British Federation of Young Choirs, The Friends of Covent Garden, The British Voice Association, The Association of British Choral Directors, and Opera Australia.

Great book on Singing and Teaching Singing

A must for every voice teacher, this book by J. Chapman. Clear explanations and based on the latest new ideas, but based in the tradition of voice teaching, she speaks about many different subjects that concern voice teaching, to bring this to a higher level. The book gives many interesting practical tips and exercises.
