A seemingly esoteric subject explained well.

This book is written for medical professionals, but it is understandable if you take your time and have a good medical dictionary with you. The subject is way to important for people concerned with their health, not to have a handle on. This is a huge risk factor for coronary events, and quite likely, more decisive as a predictive factor than cholesterol. There are ways discussed that would help you monitor your risk and improve your profile. Highly recommended for those motivated enough to want to know.

Iron Can Kill You

Everyone should have this informative book on the dangers of iron in your diet. The world in general is getting too much iron and needs to know more about it whether they have Hemocromatosis or not. I have purchased copies of this book, which can be purchased so cheaply at Amazon,for my whole family since my son died of Hemochromatosis, a disease of iron overload.

Great book to start learning about iron overload

Ever since i began switching to organic food, I began questioning the need for "reduced iron" in fortified foods and whether they were actually harmful with daily consumption...especially now with most omnivores consuming more than the RDA for iron in addition to iron rich meats regularly. It was the scarcity of meat for soldiers which led to the fortification of grain/processed food and carried over to the general population. This practice continues today without review of the efficacy or safety of iron fortification. While Dr. Weinberg doesn't approach this topic and its possible contribution to iron disorders, a big over site, he does provide some interesting connections to chronic diseases and iron disorders.

The Dr. Weinberg presents some great informational statistics, but the statistics don't quite connect the dots for me. What would be interesting is to see some cross-over studies regarding the "Eat Right for your Blood Type" (Dr. D'Adamo) and the findings that see if there is a relationship between blood type and iron metabolism disorders. Many of the iron metabolism disorders seem to be genetically identifiable as Weinberg indicates throughout his book, and blood type is also a genetic trait. Combining these two areas of studies may shore up the statistical findings and provide more understanding and therefore, better dietary modifications specific to iron needs according to blood type/genetics.

Other than the questions that this book left me with, it is a great place to start learning about iron disorders.

Did a teenager write this???

I really don't like writing bad reviews. I admire people who have the courage to put pen to paper and expose themselves to the whole world, especially those writing erotica. Having just finished this book, however, I feel compelled to write a review.

About half way through the book, I looked up the author to see if she was a teenager. I really did because the characters are out of a 16 year old's fantasy. The main male character is a billionaire (not a millionaire but a billionaire) who speaks fluent French, is basically a concert level pianist, is a fully trained pilot, is athletic, drop dead gorgeous, tall, built perfectly with an enormous penis, and the best lover on the planet. In addition, he's not only self made but is using his money to combat world hunger. Oh yeah, and all of this at the ripe old age of 26! And on top of that, he's never working. Every second is spent having sex or texting and emailing the female character. His billions seem to have just come about by magic. It seriously feels like 2 teenage girls got together and decided to create their "dream man" and came up with Christian Grey.

Then come the sex scenes. The first one is tolerable but as she goes on, they become so unbelievable that it becomes more laughable than erotic. She orgasms at the drop of a hat. He says her name and she orgasms. He simply touches her and she orgasms. It seems that she's climaxing on every page.

Then there's the writing. If you take out the parts where the female character is blushing or chewing her lips, the book will be down to about 50 pages. Almost on every single page, there is a whole section devoted to her blushing, chewing her lips or wondering "Jeez" about something or another. Then there's the use of "shades of". He's "fifty shades of @#$%% up," "she turned 7 shades of crimson," "he's ten shades of x,y, and z." Seriously?

The writing is just not up to par, the characters are unbelievable, and the sex verges on the comical. I don't know what happens in the remaining books and I do not intend to read them to find out. But given the maturity level of the first book, I imagine that they get married, have 2 perfect children, cure world hunger, and live happily ever after while riding into the sunset, as the female character climaxes on her horse causing her to chew her bottom lip and blush fifty shades of crimson. Jeez!

One word to describe this book: AWFUL. That's the simple explaination. I could go on and on about everything that is wrong with this book, but I will try to keep it high level.

First, this is beyond terrible writing. I think the author should stick with TV and stay away from the written word. Because this is not even remotely literature. I am not a writer but I have a degree in English Lit and I'm extremely well-read. The writing here is practically Twighlight-level. Additionaly, there are a few instances where punctuation mistakes occur.

Second, this story is beyond terrible. I am not talking about the porn. I am not a prude (I'm a female in my early 30) so I can take this stuff...but only if it is written well and constitutes a decent story. This story is completely under-developed with weak characters and repetitive plots. I want to go back to my kindle and track how many times Ana referred to her "inner goddess." And I'm still not even sure what she means by it. I found her completely unrealistic and annoying. Completely naive and yet witty/sarcastic at the same time. She didn't make sense as a character.

Finally, I am angry as a reader and a former publishing employee (I worked for a major publishing house for several years, right out of college). This book is complete trash - not because of the "porn" but because of the writing and the story. It makes me angry that it's gone viral. More so, it makes me angry that people are referring to this as a quality book.

Wow. Jeez. Holy Cow! This book is not worth the time or money.

Fifty Shades of Grey kept nagging me from its top spot on the bestseller list. Then I started to see comments on Facebook about it...so I jumped in and started reading.

A hot single billionaire businessman, outrageously accomplished but deeply emotionally damaged, meets an innocent college senior who can barely walk on her own two feet, much less construct and execute an intelligent sentence in his presence. Inexplicably, he must have her. She meets him once, in a semi-professional capacity - a student interviewing a successful businessman and college benefactor for the student newspaper. Before you can say "creepy stalker" he has her home address, has sent her wildly inappropriate gifts worth tens of thousands of dollars, shows up three and a half hours south in her place of business, and is tracing her cell phone so that he can "rescue" her from her own drunken stupidity, back to his bed in a hotel. This isn't romantic; this is grounds for a restraining order.

The socially stunted and immature characters failed to engage me on any level. The two main characters are so emotionally juvenile that the book often reads as though it were written by a high-schooler. There is also no plot of any sort, which I tend to require in a book, yes - even when it's erotica. The dialogue is ridiculous - stilted and forced to the point of nonsense. The heroine is an English Lit graduate, and she talks like a 12 year old.

When I spend ten dollars on a book from a major publisher, I have a basic expectation that the book has had at least some amount of editing and review. This book, at best, is an amateurish, poorly researched first draft. It is in desperate need of an editor. This book is so wrong, so often, that it is not just distracting, it's obnoxious. Errors in location and dialect, grammar, usage, geography, and many more are rampant. For a while, at least, it was funny - because I could not believe it could be so ridiculously bad. That wore thin pretty quickly, however, and all that was left was to hit "delete."

About the Author
Shannon and Greg Ethridge, have been married for sixteen years. Shannon is the best-selling author of a dozen books, including Every Woman’s Battle. A speaker, lay counselor, and advocate for sexual integrity, she has been featured on numerous radio and television broadcasts, including The 700 Club and Focus on the Family. Greg serves as the CFO for Mercy Ships International and is an avid horticulturalist. The couple lives with their two children in a log cabin in east Texas.

"Must Read" for Those Wanting the Marriage Intended for You

My wife and I have longed for the best possible marriage that God intended for us. We read "Every Man's Marriage" together. This book is a "must read" by couples that have already read "Every Man's Marriage" and want to go to the next step. If you (a married couple) want the marriage that you have dreamed of and that God has promised you, but have not read "Every Man's Marriage" together (probably not the best way to start), the husband should read "Every Man's Marriage" and the wife should read "Every Woman's Marriage" separately (recommended), and then tackle reading both together. Thank you Shannon Ethridge (and hubby Greg) for this incredible book. My wife and I now KNOW that or dream marriage is possible and we are happily working for it! Oh yeah, thanks to Steve Arterburn and Fred Stoeker for "Every Man's Marriage"! Without that book, we never would have picked up Shannon's book.

If you're looking to truly improve yourself and your marriage

Excellent book if your looking to improve yourself. This book helps you examine what YOU can do to improve your marriage, and inspire your husband to want to reconnect with you. But again, YOU have to change, and this book shows you how. It has good Christian principles and lots of scripture to back it up. It really helps you see what you can do to make your marriage blossom.

Very good book, even if you're not a religious person setting the religion aspect side the advice given is well thought out, accurate and really does work. My new outlook has made an immediate impact in my relationship and I'm really thankful for reading this book.

God changed my life through this book.

I must say that besides the Bible, this has got to be the most powerful book I have ever read. I could sense the heavy anointing on the book by page 9 as I sat and wept. I knew God had nailed me. When He first told me I had strongholds, I didn't really understand what a stronghold was. I thought that it was some evil power that lurked over a city but God showed me differently through this book. He taught me all about mind sets and the scripture really came to life for me, "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he." Plain and simple. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who is seriously pursuing a relationship with God. This book demands change in your life and is not for the carnal christian. A must read book for every prayer warrior

This book has literally changed my prayer life and has changed the people I've been praying for. I have always known about binding the enemy but never realized we are to bind ourself to God's will, his mind, the blood of Jesus, the power of the cross, and the path of righteousness. I now realize we can pray to loose our wrong beliefs and thinking and ask God to remove the strongholds in our life that have caused them. This book will give you the format to activate this in your life.

A greater depth of understanding - a greater freedom!

Through the experiences and knowledge given to Rev. Savard, this book can produce a freedom and liberty within each of us to live victorious in Jesus Christ! Through God's wisdom and the principles within this book, I came to realize that we can receive God's healing of past hurts and offenses and yet not have complete freedom - for the hidden strongholds remain erected in our lives. Gaining the knowledge to either pray them down or scale their walls comes from understanding how and why they became a part of our spiritual life - "Shattering Your Strongholds" does just that! Experiencing this book has been life changing for me - I have experienced a renewal and a revival - once again I can walk in the fullness of God's authority because the enemy has been exposed!

A smart guide to looking at your health holistically.

I have followed Kimberly Snyder since her first book, The Beauty Detox Solution: Eat Your Way to Radiant Skin, Renewed Energy and the Body You've Always Wanted. When I read that book, it honest-to-God changed my life. I was pregnant with my second child--so, not a good time for radical dietary changes--but I did manage to make a few adjustments to my diet that helped me legitimately FEEL better on a day-to-day basis. For example, I ate less dairy, I ate fruit on an empty stomach, I made sure to eat veggies before each meal, and I upped my green vegetable intake considerably. Because of her recommendations, my last two pregnancies were heartburn-free!

Despite the fact that Snyder's second book, The Beauty Detox Foods: Discover the Top 50 Beauty Foods That Will Transform Your Body and Reveal a More Beautiful You, didn't really wow me, I was very eager to read her third book, The Beauty Detox Power. I didn't know what to expect, honestly. Would it be more of the same? Could she really add anything new to the conversation she started in Beauty Detox Solution?

Well, within the first few pages of this book, I knew it was something different, something special even. This book is much more personal than her other two. She still follows the same format of sharing client stories throughout in order to illustrate her points, yes. But she also adds a few of her own--stories about struggling to fit in, about feeling neglected and misunderstood, and about how she ultimately was able to find her way to optimum mental, physical, and emotional health. I think there can be a tendency, when you look at her, to think, "Oh, this woman has it all figured out, and she probably always has." But Snyder proves that that hasn't been the case. She has had to find her way just like the rest of us. I appreciated her willingness to share that, and it helped me stay open to her message.

And her message is powerful! There is so much good information here. The book is divided into six sections called Power Alignment Shifts. Each section is broken up into two or more chapters. Each Power Alignment Shift section has a fancy subtitle, but, basically, the sections talk about:

1) thinking about your health holistically
2) recognizing and then harnessing the power of your thoughts
3) dealing with food cravings
4) understanding your body's chakras
5) understanding the importance of healthy relationships
6) recipes

I especially enjoyed the first and fourth sections. I so loved how she started this book off with an honest discussion of what it means to be healthy. It is so easy to get caught up in counting calories and obsessing--OBSESSING!--over every little nutrient or carb or fat or how much in, how much out. But, in the end, we are just using food as yet another means to be cruel to ourselves. It's sad. And completely counterproductive. I couldn't agree more with Snyder when she says, "If you love your body and nourish it from a place of love, instead of just plotting and planning how to make it skinnier, your body will respond with an increased amount of vitality, energy, and health...and you'll actually realize far superior--and sustainable--results with your weight and beauty."

I will also add that Snyder's breakdown of the chakras is one of the most simple, straightforward, yet informative explanations I've encountered. It was very well done, and I know I'm going to be referencing that section of the book a lot.

I only have two complaints. First, Snyder's face is ALL OVER this book. Truly, she is everywhere. I finally broke down and counted all of her selfies; there are 48 pictures of her in a 300-page book--50 if you count the front and back cover. So that averages out to be a smiling Snyder every six pages. It all got to be a bit...much. And the worst part is that all the headshots were a distraction from her very good message.

Second, while I loved that she had so many footnotes throughout the book, when I went to look more closely at her sources, I only found this message at the back: "A full list of references used in the writing of this book can be found at [her website]." Well, if you go to the website, there is no clear path to finding the references. Plus, you are bombarded immediately with pop-up after pop-up. I don't know if the book I received doesn't have references because I received an advance copy, but I really wish this aspect of the book had been more transparent.

Regardless, I thought this was a wonderful book. Snyder packed so much information into Beauty Detox Power--information that really added something powerful, insightful, and unique to the oft-discussed topic of health. She has motivated me to think about my body and my mind differently, and I really think I will be a better, healthier person because of it.

Cant say it enough. The original has all the actual nutritional info, great recipes, and a very approachable beginners guide. This book is hard to look at! All these photos of Kimberly Snyder doing some type of glamour pose on every other page, thick glossy pages like I'm reading some type of fine art book, and it jumps all over the place, talking about lots of things that are not nutrition related. It's so cheesy I can't stand it! This book really exemplifies how Kimberly Snyder is now trying to MARKET HERSELF, not promote the lifestyle like she did with plain simple facts in the first book. I still respect her work and lifestyle - she was a huge inspiration to me after reading her first book and I still base a lot of my lifestyle on the first book. However, this new book would just makes me embarrassed if someone happened to see it on my bookshelf and pick it up.

A MUST READ FOR THOSE looking for TRUE CHANGE!!!!

I have never heard of Kimberly Snyder until I came across her podcast on iTunes. I am on a journey to healing my mind, body and hormones and I instantly vibed with her podcast since I was on a leaky gut diet trying to heal my gut. I purchased her 1st book and loved it so much I read it in 3 days. ( I am not an avid reader) so that says something. From there I decided to give the GGS Smoothie a try and it has become a staple to my day. I also checked out her site and found out she sold a soil based probiotic ( which i was already taking pre-script) and Detoxify basically Mag07 all cheaper than what I was taking. Fast forward 3 weeks implementing the basics in Beauty Detox Solutions I decided to order this book to see if I could get anything out of it from a non-nutritional standpoint of healing. I read reviews and was hesitant but OMG am I so glad I purchased this book!!!!! It's soooooo fundamental to healing in general but gears to those who are looking to " loose weight". I especially appreciated the candor and honesty that Kimberly shares with us about her experiences, others, and being real about how to see and maintain changes. There were some reviews that mentioned her advertising her products and talking too much about her personal story but I didn't get that vibe at all. On a side note I always find it funny how people get so "sensitive" when independent entrepreneurs advertise themselves or their products but say nothing about the large big mogul business that do ur harm instead of good and constantly advertise! Side rant but I almost didn't buy this book until I thought she is advertising good even if It is a lot . I learned some tips/steps to deal with past traumas/feelings. How to use yoga and food to heal depending on what I am looking to address emotionally, and more recipes that sound delicious. I admit at first I looked at the recipes and thought this lifestyle cost so much but if you just buy the base stuff then all you need to grab is fruits and veggies each week or biweekly which is nominal if shopping smart . Overall you spend less long term and become happier and healthier. I happen to think I needed this book first before reading any other book on losing weight, nutrition, or aryuveda ( which I have been practicing and exposed to for a year). This book explains why for everything you do and makes total sense. Two thumps up and I will be buying a hard copy also.
