Dr. Brent Russell is a board certified emergency room doctor, living and working in Sun Valley, Idaho. He trained in Portland, Oregon and spent the first decade of private practice there. With over 15 years of emergency room experience, Brent Russell has witnessed what most can only imagine.

Best ER book I've ever read!

I am an avid reader of all books concerning emergency medicine and other related topics. I have read countless ER books and I can say without reservation this one is the best hands down! So good in fact that this is he first time I have taken the time to write a review about medical related books.

From writing style, patient stories, to life lessons, this book grabs ahold of you and you can't put it down! I found myself anxious, frustrated and happy at the stories and lesson the author shared! I wish he was my doctor! He totally changed my view concerning frivolous lawsuits and how devastating they are to the doctors involved.

I never agreed with those type of suits, but after reading this book it opened my eyes to the evil of "unchecked" law suits.

Now I am hoping the author has another book in the works!! I'm very sad that I've finished the book.... I long for just " one more of his stories"!

Pleasurable read.

I highly recommend this book. It is a collection of stories from a emergency physician. This Doctor shares interesting stories, but more importantly shows us that these Doctor do worry about the quality of patient care that they provide. We have all had experiences in the E. R. with Doctors who appear to not care. Perhaps instead, they are at the end of a long shift, or they have become masters at showing minimal emotion to carry out their jobs. E.R. Doctors have one of the most difficult jobs, and the next time I have to wait , I will try be more considerate or their time. Thanks for sharing your stories Dr Russell, it was a pleasure to read.

A fascinating look at life as an ER doctor

This book is filled with engaging, calamitous, amusing and sometimes unbelievable stories of the author's experience as an emergency room doctor. And while the stories keep you fascinated, the author also does a beautiful job of interweaving his life and his role as husband and friend throughout. I thought a lot about how the book was written once I finished it and was impressed at how he came to write the book in the way that he did. It's a smooth-flowing account and feels seamless in its progression. But the author had to have done quite a bit of work in making it seem that way. It's beautifully constructed and that makes it a true pleasure to read.
I also felt that I got to know the author as a person, and a doctor, and he comes across as the sort of person you hope would be able to treat you if you ever needed to go to the ER. He's kind, compassionate, light-hearted and good at his job. He's also authentic in his depiction of himself and his profession. I'm grateful he took the time to write the book and hope he continues to write more.

Very Complete

I'm very happy with this book. It's all expected and more.

It covers everything from basic cleaning and minor repairs to an absolute complete rebuild of ever component imaginable for spinets, uprights, and grand pianos. The author explains precisely how each part of a piano action works and how to properly regulate them. Moreover it also has two chapters on tuning; the first covers the theory of tuning while the second covers the actual tuning process along with exercises that teach each step of the process. It's well worth its price.

This is an essential reference of player piano servicing. Very technical at points, nonetheless, it offers valuable tips for the novice do-it-yourselfer as well as for the professional restorer seeking advice. Hundreds of modern and period photos from rare service manuals enhance this book. The writing style is very clear and easy to follow.

The only negative, for me, is that it has not been updated since the 1980's. The advent of computerized solenoid player systems, and their potential for being installed on antique players, is barely covered. I would have also covered roll scanning and restoration more thoroughly.

Even if you never open your player, this book provides valuable insight into the inner workings of this most fascinating mechanical technology and helps you to appreciate the art and craft of piano rebuilding.

This book is great for helping with your own piano. Our player is so old that people don't have any idea or parts to fix it. This book gives us some ideas on how to do it ourselves.

A Ukrainian boy named Nicki wants his grandmother Baba to knit snow-white mittens for him. She warns her grandson that a white mitten will be hard to find if he loses it in the snow, but of course he promptly does just that! What happens next is the surprising part, as a mole takes refuge in the lost mitten, then a rabbit, then a hedgehog, an owl, a badger, and a fox. If you think the mitten might be a wee bit stretched out at this point, just wait: "Then a big bear sniffed at the mitten. The animals were packed in tight, but the bear didn't care. He crawled in anyway." When a tiny mouse squeezes in, her whiskers tickle the bear's nose. He sneezes, and "Aaaaa-aaaaa-ca-chew!" all the animals fly out of their crocheted cave. As the mitten sails through the air, Nicki spots it, reclaims it, and takes it home to show his smiling Baba.

Jan Brett is the illustrator of many well-known folktales, fairy tales, and poems, such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Owl and the Pussycat, by Edward Lear. Her special signature in her detailed artwork is the intricate borders, seen in this book as birch-bark panels with embroidered details and mitten-shaped vignettes offering additional insights into the story line. What Might Fitten into a Knitten Mitten? A tale of snowy enchantment!

A boy of about 7 or 8 wants warm winter mittens, in white. His grandmother advises as color so the mittens can be found if dropped. But Nikki wants and gets white. Off he goes into the deep snows around the small farmstead---and drops a mitten while climbing a tree. Not noticing, on he goes having a wonderful snowy day. So does a wee mole who crawls in the mitten. So does a rabbit snuggling right down. So do a forestful of animals, all enchantingly portrayed with expressions of increasing annoyance as a ox---a fox and then a great big bear climb into the sot warm mitten.

But---a tiny mouse, a latecomer, climbs on bear's nose causing a big sneeze which propels all the critters hither and yon, and tosses the mitten through the air just in time for Nikki who is searching to catch it. On the last page, Nikki is happily toasting his toes by the fire while Grandma holds up the mittens she has knitted puzzled indeed about why has stretched and stretched.

The story abounds with delights for reader and listeners: the text is written with almost a poetic cadence with lovely sounding words; the illustrations are bright with color and joyously composed, the story tickles the imaginations and offers a grand platform for talking about animals who might or might not fitten into a mitten. For my family, this was a perfect Christmas-tide story even here on a tropical island .

A must read!

Although the introduction says that this is intended for people that have been working for 10+ years or so and that are looking to chage careers, as a recent law graduate, I also found it extremely helpful. The theory exposed in the book is a departure from conventional doctrines that provides the reader with a fresh and organic perspective on professional growth. I found that the book was particularly effective in relieving my anxiety about deciding what career path I want to take. At its core, it teaches that it is ok to not have a detailed and clear idea of what you want your career to be, because the right opportunities will always show up and the choices that you make will eventually lead you to where you want to be.

Self-Assertive tone, dry read, self-conflicting ideas

I really wanted to like this book and help me investigate a new strategy on how to explore my different passions. However, I just couldn't connect with the writing style. Although the author offers many approaches that have also worked for me, the tone of voice and dryness of the examples was overbearing. There are also many self-conflicting points. The author argues that a test and learn approach to finding what works for us is preferred to planning and implementing, but fact is that it takes planning and implementing to test and learn. They're complementary, not competing ideas. Even some of her case studies describe a process of planning before trying things. The whole thing feels like Mrs. Ibarra is trying to fit real life examples into her "framework," shut all other concepts and approaches to the journey of finding one's passion, in an effort to establish herself as a thought leader in the field and keep herself relevant at Insead.

Living one's passion, in my opinion, involves a journey of self-exploration. In asking ourselves what we want to do, we need to first answer who we are. Defining our values, what we see as success, what our history and present say about us... Unfortunately, Mrs. Ibarra doesn't explore much else beside "try different jobs." In my opinion, a very shallow effort. The concept of understanding oneself is left completely out. Even if one finds something they enjoy doing by adopting this approach, I doubt that they will understand Why, and live a blind life.

I read chapter 1 and was left frustrated at the tone of voice, then I skimmed over sections of chapter 2 and 3 and disagreed with so much of the content... Sorry, not my cup of tea. Good luck to all those that try the author's tactics.

What do I suggest instead?

I recommend "no fears no excuses" by Larry Smith for those that feel stuck in their careers, and "how to measure your life" by Clayton Christensen for those that want a perspective on how to be happier. They're in my opinion, much more comprehensive material on the question of "how can I be happier"

I wish I had found this book five years ago! Yet I wasn't ready for it then...

I am not sure that I would have been ready for Dr. Ibarra's book in 2005 when I finally paid attention to the signals in my own environment that I needed a massive career change. I'm not sure that I would have heard its message, which is part of the point of the book as well.

It would have helped me, however, realize that what I was going through was "normal". This book shakes up the myths that you need to discover what you are good at and make an educated series of career research actions and decisions. For most of us who have done the seemingly random walk through career and life transitions, she provides a backdrop of case studies to show patterns of uncertainties that happen to many other people as well. She illustrates well how the people around you signal and reinforce both change and drag factors, how the narratives develop over time in your new life, and how the new stories of your new life only start to make sense toward the END of the transition.

I found the academic connections and endnotes refreshing, attaching this work to research and core theories in major thinkers. The examples were easy to relate to and memorable.

I have recommended this book so far to a dozen friends over 40 who are trying to understand the smoke signals of change in their own lives, struggling through long transitions (exacerbated by the economic malaise), or staring at the tensions between their current work environments and the ticking timeclock of their lives. I have taken personal notes throughout my Kindle version of this on my iPad and keep rereading and thinking through the document -- nice way to enjoy this book!

Zach Raymond may not leave biographical data to support his background, but just read his books – ONE HOUR TRADING, INVESTING FOR BEGINNERS, SALES, STOCK TRADING – and he grabs our attention despite the brevity of his books.

As in all his books Zach gets immediately to the point showing great respect for the reader’s time and valuing the brief time he has to share his concepts. He starts with the basics of The Stock Market ‘Most people tend to think that the stock market is one singular thing, but that is not the case. In fact, there are many different stocks, stockholders, and stock markets connecting buyers and sellers. There are two particular stock markets, primary markets and secondary markets. Obviously one comes before the other, and they serve two different functions. Primary market: The primary market is the market in which the stock first comes into being. It is the direct entry of the stock onto the market by the company. These
stocks are also referred to as securities. For the most part, these are securities that are issued by smaller companies that are looking to expand. By selling their stocks, they are getting a lot of people on board, in addition to a lot of money which they can then use. Secondary market: The secondary market is the market in which investors trade these previously issued securities without the involvement of the issuing companies. It is this secondary market that people are talking about when they are discussing the stock market.’

For most people when they hear Stock trading it requires money at the same time one has to have a very rigorous amount of knowledge, research and time that you have to do which is true. In this book, It will show you the fundamentals of Stock Trading and being aware that common people can try stock trading as their passive income. After reading this book I am persuaded and motivated by it so I can try to go into stock market but I need to research first before I hop in the bandwagon of trading as per advice on this book. So if you want to try stock trading like me, You have to read this book first for you to gain more confidence and enthusiasm to have a fix choice to get into trading.

This is a good book to learn stock trading, especially for the beginners. It describes the different types of stocks that will help in making the appropriate decision before getting into investing. There are tips and guidelines being shown in this book that will help a lot in obtaining the right path to success in this business. The book provides lots of ideas and useful information; many advantages being discussed; it is a great guide indeed!
