Family ties, loyalty and passion will bind you forever...

Now for something completely different...but with its own merits and surprises. I am a HUGE Lils' and Jay fan and absolutely loved Tara Oakes' Kingsmen series...so I was thrilled to get to read her newest book Baby V and went in not knowing what to expect. I am also a big lover of all things ethnic and mafia...especially when it involves an innocent woman caught up in the violence and attraction to a "bad" man. This book had all the requirements for just such a reading pleasure but was a more softer, less graphic version of some other "familia" type books I have read.
When Vincenza Lombardi graduates from her protective and sheltered existence at St. Bart's girls-only school she is met with the enthusiasm and rowdy support of her older brothers and a certain close family friend Dom DiBenedetto...the one who will change her future in more ways than one. She is (of course) a virgin and has never even seen a man naked...but has all the sweet, romantic fantasies all young women have of finding that man and falling in love (like in the chick-flics she loves to watch).
"Baby V" (as she's known to family and friends) has always had an eye for her friend Theresa's brother Dom but because he is older and pretty much has a rep for being a player, she never thought she would have a chance with him (or have the permission of their families to pursue him).
What she doesn't know is that there has been secrets kept for years, plans made to keep the family ties strong and that her future was never hers to choose in the first place. I can't say too much more about the intricate plotlines, dangerous people from the past trying to cause trouble or exactly WHAT secrets the family is hiding without spoiling the excitement of discovery, but I will say that the love story between V and Dom was mega-sweet, romantic and then OMG so HOT!
It was like a long, slow, sensuous foreplay session when these two are together and being a virgin, V only has books and movies to give her any ideas on what to expect or even "do" with a man. I was getting a little hot and bothered myself reading Dom's seduction techniques and just WISH I had had someone like him back when it was my first time! There is a really cool twist near the end that I especially liked that showed V coming into her own as a person and as a strong woman in her own right.
If you love the rough and tough world of The Kingsmen MC, be aware you won't be getting that type of read with this book, but it was still a very exciting and suspenseful story full of complex (and at times comical) characters, rich family history and leaves us with a small cliffhanger at the end that sets the stage for book 2!

Great new genre for Tara Oakes

This book was not what I was expecting from Tara Oakes. There was very little angst but plenty of hot sex. Baby V has had her whole life mapped out for her and now that she's finished college she is no longer going to allow others to dictate her life but Dom may change all that. He's been like a older brother growing up and now that she's all grown up thier attraction heats up. Dom is a powerful experienced man and Baby V has been sheltered her whole life. Can she handle a man like Dom? Can she handle the secrets? Will she forge her own way or allow Dom to guide her in the direction of his choosing? There is a small cliff hanger but not one that will aggravate the reader.

Dom and Vincenza! Hot!!!

I enjoyed reading Baby V because I can relate to Baby V. being the youngest of a family. My family isn't well to do but all 4 of my sisters and I went to a private all girls schools with uniforms but we lived at home. I dislike being called the baby but it's something you never outgrow and doesn't stop once you're an adult, being the youngest.
Living a sheltered life is also something I can relate to and not being considered in discussions that can effect one's future.
Upon graduating from college, the family has planned for Vincenza to become part of the family's company which she is already a Board Member. But V. wants to embark on a different path that doesn't include the business. Her brother John continually tries to persuade V to take a position in the company but decides to use a different approach. He has Dom, the C.E.O of the family business, work on a different strategy to gain her acceptance of a position.
What will happen when secrets from the past are revealed? Will it bring the two families whose patriarchs' started the business together with hard work and determination together or does it break families apart? What will happen with the dynamics of Dom and Vincenza? You must read to find out.
I recommend that you read this book because it is a great read. I cannot wait for Book 2!
