A book about the reality of love

This author has written many books about people with chronic illness with realism and respect. The Statue is one of them and is about the reality of love.
Tristan is an ambitious journalist with big dreams. He has been with mechanic Eli, his childhood sweetheart, for 10 years. Idyllic? No. Eli wants Tristan to be a real life partner while Tristan is not sure he wants to commit to this unsophisticated mechanic. They love each other though, or do they?
Zane is a schizophrenic patient Tristan met in a mental institution where he was doing an investigation. Zane has an imaginary lover and protector called Lucas and when he is with Lucas, he is happy and functions well in spite of his condition. Unfortunately, he is force-fed a new medication that makes him unable to be in contact with Lucas. Without his protector, Zane is brutalised by imaginary bullies and his condition deteriorates rapidly.
Tristan is aware that Zane experiences a different kind of reality, but who is he to judge when Lucas is such a positive force in Zane's life? As Tristan's relationship with Eli falls apart, his determination to help Zane reestablish his relationship with Lucas is stronger than ever. He doesn't know it yet, but his good deed will be repaid.
This is a romance with a happy end for the two couples, but the happy end only comes after hard lessons have been learned. The emotional journey of the characters is poignant and realistic.
This book is a must-read. It is very well written and reminds me of The Painting of Porcupine City: A Novel.

Wonderful!

I have yet to be disappointed by one of Zathyn's books. This is another wonderfully colorful story to add to my collection. I chose to read the text version, as opposed to the graphic version, and the vivid descriptions painted such a clear picture of things that I was drawn right in. I felt as though I was right alongside Tristan, especially walking through the Gallows for that first time.
Eli is the main guy with the obvious problems, until he meets sweet Zane and has a bit of a wake up call. It was very difficult not to feel for Zane and his situation. I loved how everything played out. This story runs the gamut of emotions - I went from one end of the spectrum at the beginning, on a bit of a roller coaster ride throughout, to a nice "ahhhhh" at the end. It moves along at a nice constant pace and is just the right length. As always, I am eagerly looking forward to Zathyn's next creation.

Heart-warming and different
By Love Me Some Fiction
The story of of Tristan and Eli; Zane and Lucas was enjoyable and uplifting. It's a quick read and one you won't put down until finished. I smiled, I cired, and I cheered for all four of the men.
A great story about love and how it's reality truly is something quite often only seen by the two parties involved. It doesn't matter who or how you love, but that you do. Love can be life-changing or it can be security. It can be delusional or concrete. And, sometimes, it can be all of those at the same time.
